Every day someone is injured on a job, becomes ill from a work related hazard or is fatally wounded while at work. Many times these situations are attributed to and called an unfortunate “accident”. The reality is most, if not all, workplace injuries, illnesses and deaths could be avoided by providing a true safety culture. While they may be unplanned and unwanted, accidents are generally not unavoidable. This training program will look at ways to avoid these so called “accidents” and help you create a safer and healthier workplace. National Safety Compliance has developed this training video and materials to assist employers in training their workers about Incident Investigation.
Learn MoreIn today's work environments, compressed gas is used for many things… refrigeration… welding… heating… and a number of other functions. Compressed gas can be dangerous, and employees who work with them need to know how to handle them properly. NSC's training products on “Compressed Gas Cylinders” provide the information employees need to handle and transport these potentially volatile storage containers. Topics covered in these products include:
Learn MoreToday much of the work we do involves computers, whether it's in the warehouse or in the accounting department. And just like any other type of equipment, we need to know what potential problems may be involved in working with computers as well as how to use computers safely. NSC's training products on “Computer Workstation Safety” review the safe use of computers, and offer practical solutions to many potential problems. Topics covered in these products include:
Learn MoreMany workplaces contain spaces that are considered “confined” because their configurations hinder the activities of employees who must enter, work in, and exit them. A confined space has limited or restricted means for entry or exit, and it is not designed for continuous employee occupancy. Confined spaces include, but are not limited to underground vaults, tanks, storage bins, manholes, pits, silos, process vessels, and pipelines. OSHA uses the term “permit-required confined space” (permit space) to describe a confined space that has one or more of the following characteristics: contains or has the potential to contain a hazardous atmosphere; contains a material that has the potential to engulf an entrant; has walls that converge inward or floors that slope downward and taper into a smaller area which could trap or asphyxiate an entrant; or contains any other recognized safety or health hazard, such as unguarded machinery, exposed live wires, or heat stress. According to data collected by the U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL), Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries (CFOI) program, fatal injuries in confined spaces fluctuated from a low of 81 in 1998 to a high of 100 in 2000 during the five-year period, averaging 92 fatalities per year. Learn MoreCranes are used in many different settings including: the transport industry for loading and unloading freight; the manufacturing industry for moving, lifting and lowering equipment and parts; and in the construction industry for moving materials to various locations at the work site. Generally the items being lifted are heavy and beyond the capability of being moved by human strength alone. For this reason, the crane has become a vital piece of equipment in all industries. The crane operator needs the help of many others to ensure the load is rigged, lifted, moved and landed safely. The operator is not always able to see the load being moved, the area surrounding the route of the move and/or the landing area. For this reason the services of a signal person are generally required. A signal person is a vital part of crane operations and provides signals to guide the crane operator as the load is moved. While there are different options available for signal personnel to communicate with the crane operator, this training program will focus on hand signals which is the most common method used. Learn MoreOn most construction sites and in many industrial settings, cranes are commonly used. Cranes make it possible to lift and move heavy loads which might otherwise be impossible. Cranes allow heavy objects and supplies to be lifted to the tops of buildings, moved from one place to another and lifted over other structures. As part of the lifting procedure, proper rigging of the lifted object is paramount. Rigging is the preparation of materials, supplies, equipment or other items, for lifting by the crane. Improper rigging of a load or failure of the rigging equipment can result in property damage, personnel injury, and even death. Learn MoreIn both construction and general industry settings, the need to move large and heavy loads is necessary and vital. There are many different machines and types of equipment which make this possible. One such piece of equipment is the crane. Cranes make it possible to lift, move and lower loads and objects of all shapes and sizes. There are significant safety issues to be considered with the operation of a crane. Crane operators, and workers in close proximity to them, must follow certain procedures and guidelines to ensure their safety and those around them. Learn MoreIn an effort to fight terrorism and improve the security of hazardous materials being shipped, the Department of Transportation has added three major security requirements to their HAZMAT regulations. Companies that handle hazardous materials must develop a “Security Plan,” and give their employees “Security Awareness” and “In-Depth Security” training. The program “DOT In-Depth HAZMAT Security Training” makes employees aware of the risks associated with transporting hazardous materials and gives them an understanding of their facility's HAZMAT Security Plan. The kit contains a “HAZMAT Transportation Security Manual” which explains the DOT's security requirements and provides a “fill-in-the-blank” HAZMAT Security Plan. The posters in the kit emphasize the importance of securing hazardous materials during the transportation process.
